Still Life with a Pink Paintbox

Last year in February I decided to order this lovely pink Roberson style palette from The Little Brass Box Company. I have waited for long nine months for it to arrive and was very happy to FINALLY be able to use it for the first time in November. It is a sturdy and beautiful palette handmade in England by John Hurtley. John was very helpful to me and kindly answered all my questions. After I had placed my order, I was still thinking of switching to a Binning Monro style palette, because of the huge flat mixing space. I really enjoy mixing watercolour on a flat surface but the size of the Roberson paintbox seemed a little more convenient to me…

I’ve been using my palette almost every day since November when suddenly it occurred to me that I could order another Robbie with no deep wells at all. All flat! Long story short, I have been extremely lucky and got my new flat Robbie very quickly. Of course from The Little Brass Box Company :).

With a heavy heart I decided to sell my first palette. My new box is all I ever wanted and I don’t really need two palettes. Still I feel very sad and I will miss my pink Robbie, so I decided to paint it along with my favourite mug and the new Sketchbook book by Charles Reid (in the background).
