Miss Reichl

Charles Reid is my favourite watercolour painter and I’ve been trying to learn from his books for some time now. I wish I could participate in one of his workshops someday! It would be lovely to watch him paint and get to know him…

In his past workshops I’ve read about, he encouraged his students to paint from black and white photographs. I really liked this idea so I will try to do some more watercolour sketches like this in the next couple of days.

For my first sketch I used one of the beautiful photographs by Mucha, taken in his studio – Miss Reichl (Max Reinhardt’s Company’s leading actress) posing for ‘Tragedy’, a German Theatre mural.

Pencil line and watercolour in Stillman & Birn’s Beta series sketchbook.

I love Charles Reid’s painting style! I, too, would love to take a workshop from him. Your painting is beautiful. I think you could teach a workshop on this style! I enjoy your work and seeing what you are currently painting.
